Only in Leonida
When the sun fades and the neon glows, everyone has something to gain — and more to lose.
Leonida is a state in the United States of America, featured in Grand Theft Auto VI. Leonida is world-famous for its beach resorts, amusement parks, warm and sunny climate, water sports, and one of the busiest ports in the world.
The state is also famous for the so-called "Leonida Man" — a local phenomenon inspired by the Florida Man phenomenon, which highlights the often absurd, eccentric, and comical behavior of some residents of the region.
Leonida is based on Florida, but traces of Georgia can be seen in places, especially in the terrain and landmarks such as Mount Calaga National Park. The state's name is presumably given in honor of the Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León, who led the first European expedition to the Florida peninsula.

Miscellaneous
- The state seal of Leonida, inspired by the seal of Florida, depicts a man being attacked by an alligator.
- The state of Florida and its locations are repeatedly mentioned throughout the Grand Theft Auto series.
- In the 3D universe, Florida is a playable state where Vice City is located.
- In the HD universe, Leonida was also originally called Florida, as mentioned multiple times in GTA 4 and GTA 5.
- With the release of GTA 6, Leonida replaced Florida as the canonical state of the HD universe. Thus, the game's Florida remained exclusive to the 3D universe.
- Renaming locations and other things has already happened in the GTA series, for example:
- The Hollywood actors from the promotional materials of GTA 3 became the actors of Vinewood in GTA San Andreas.
- The city of San Andreas from the original GTA of 1997, based on the real San Francisco, was considered canonical in the 3D universe for some time and was mentioned in GTA 3 and GTA Vice City. After the release of GTA San Andreas, the city was renamed to San Fierro, and the name San Andreas was assigned to the entire state.
