Welcome to the Wetlands
The untamable jewel of Leonida’s crown.
You never know what lies beneath the surface of this primordial expanse. The gators may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves.
Grassrivers is a vast swampy region in Leonida, featured in Grand Theft Auto VI. It is located in the south of the state and stretches across the counties of Vice Dale and Mariana.
The region is known for its shallow swamps, dense vegetation, and diverse fauna typical of subtropical wetlands.
Indirect mentions of it appeared as early as GTA 4 through in-game websites. Among these mentions were tourist advertisements for Vice City and a note about a tourist who illegally transported a crocodile from the swampy outskirts of the city to Liberty City.
Grassrivers first appeared in the debut trailer of GTA 6, where an airboat moving through the swamps, a flock of flamingos, and several alligators could be seen.
The region is based on the Everglades National Park in Florida. Its name likely relates to the book The Everglades: River of Grass, published in 1947 by writer and environmentalist Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
