The untamable jewel of Leonida’s crown.
You never know what lies beneath the surface of this primordial expanse. The gators may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves.
Grassrivers — an extensive swampy region in State of Leonida, featured in Grand Theft Auto VI. It is located in the south of the state and extends through the counties of Vice Dale and Mariana.
The region is known for its shallow swamps, dense vegetation, and diverse fauna typical of subtropical wetlands.
Indirect references to it appeared as early as GTA 4 through in-game websites. Among these references were tourist advertisements for Vice City and a note about a tourist who illegally smuggled a crocodile from the swampy area on the outskirts of the city to Liberty City.
Grassrivers first appeared in GTA 6's debut trailer, where you could see an airboat moving through the swamps, a flock of flamingos, and several alligators.
The region is based on the Everglades national park in Florida. Its name is likely connected to the book The Everglades: River of Grass, published in 1947 by writer and environmentalist Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
