On August 18, two short videos presented as GTA 6 gameplay appeared online, less than two weeks before the game's official gameplay reveal. The leak was posted by an account called Cyberleek, which describes itself as a hacker group.
What the Videos Show
Both clips run about a minute and feature Jason Duval, one of GTA 6's two protagonists.
- In the first, he leaves a house by the water and plays basketball. Accurate shots raise a "focus" stat, hinting at RPG-style elements.
- In the second, Jason crashes into a delivery van and beats the driver with a wrench, earning two of six wanted stars before fleeing the police.
- The leak also includes a map of the world: the fictional state of Leonida, based on Florida.
- The footage also reveals a stamina meter during fights, a fuel gauge, and a system where police identify the player by clothing, hairstyle and vehicle.
Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed the leak, but almost immediately began filing copyright complaints against posts with the videos and map. That looks like indirect confirmation they are genuine. Insiders, however, believe the build is not new: according to the community, the footage may have been recorded back in 2023.
Cyberleek frames the leak as a protest against digital pre-orders of GTA 6 without a physical edition. In a published manifesto, the group demands that Rockstar and other major publishers not open digital pre-orders until the game's release and independent reviews, and stop selling "fake" single-player expansions.
This is the third time GTA 6 gameplay has leaked ahead of an official showing. The largest leak came in September 2022, when over an hour of early footage surfaced and Rockstar itself confirmed the hack. The debut trailer leaked in December 2023.
The official gameplay presentation, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, arrives on Netflix on August 27, with the game launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
